METHODOLOGY AND MISSION
“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”
I have learned to harness my nerdy neurodiverse tendencies to develop numerous talents and skills. That makes the goal of EVERY lesson to be to help my students discover and follow their own personal passions. Many parallel concepts from the world of martial arts are also seamlessly incorporated into my programs. Once you know your personal path…you can use it to learn ANYTHING.
Here are just a few examples of the tools that I use:
learning something vs. knowing something
breathing and body mechanics
improvisation and brainstorming
developing a passion for practice
honest art and personal authenticity
mindfulness and meditation
self-confidence, self-awareness, and self-care
reflection and introspection
research and development
creative collaboration and teamwork
preparation and performance
lifelong learning, progress, and potential
I utilize a different teaching method than most. Forged by years of trial, error, and triumph on my own journey as an educator/mentor and lifelong self-learner. My diverse interests, as well as an incessant fascination with physiology, philosophy, and psychology, have forged my mindset and mission. As a teacher, I want to teach you, to teach yourself. End of story.
This may seem “odd” and “eclectic” and “weird” to some folks…but this is how humans have learned for thousands of years. In the great learned schools and tribes of our ancestors worldwide, the goal was not grades and money…but knowledge and wisdom. Learning and experiencing as much as you can about the world around you, with the goal of continuous improvement of your mind, body, and soul. Then in turn, sharing your insights with the next generation, to help improve humanity as a whole.
This unique method has made me a popular and effective teacher for a wide range of students of all ages, including those who are neurotypical, neurodivergent, or have developmental/physical disabilities or special needs. Every lesson is custom tailored to each student’s needs and interests because no two people learn the same way. My students never have to worry about being “understood”. I see YOU and believe YOU can learn anything YOU want, YOUR own way. The only thing stopping you, is YOU...and you know it.
Being ADHD myself, I know the struggles and stresses of neurodivergence in daily life. Through these experiences, I have discovered that perceived deficits of neurodivergence can become SUPERPOWERS when they are unlocked. The hyper-focused talents of brilliant neurodivergent minds have advanced the world in so many ways. All progress in any area of study that has advanced humanity have been made by eccentric, passionate, multi-specialized “weirdos”...and self-learners that thought outside of the box. Have you ever thought of that?
